Night of Darkness – Seraing

09/10/2021

The City of Seraing and the Syndicat d’Initiative de Seraing are organising “La nuit de l’obscurité” on 9 October. On the programme: a night-time walk in the Seraing woods accompanied by nature guides to make participants aware of light pollution and its impact.

Did you know that ? Light pollution caused by humans has important consequences on the ecosystem as well as on the health of human beings. This is an issue that is not widely communicated but that the Association pour la Sauvegarde du Ciel et de l’Environnement Nocturnes (ASCEN) is trying to raise awareness of among the population.

In pursuit of the same objective, the City of Seraing, under the impetus of the Deputy Mayor for the Environment, Laura Crapanzano, and the Syndicat d’Initiative de Seraing, presided over by the Deputy Mayor for Prevention and Tourism, Alain Onkelinx, has decided to raise citizens’ awareness by setting up a special event that is completely free of charge.

On Saturday 9 October, it is organising “The Night of Darkness”. Starting at 8pm, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a night-time walk in the Seraing woods of around 5km (i.e. almost 2 hours of walking), starting from the Syndicat d’Initiative hall (avenue des Puddleurs, 51 in 4100 Seraing). They will be accompanied by nature guides who will discuss the challenges facing nightlife today.

As it is dark, they will not be allowed to bring any luminous objects and will be invited to use all their senses, except their sight! Afterwards, they will return to the starting point where they can enjoy a drink.

Attention!!! Places are limited and reservations are compulsory. Reservations must be made with the Syndication d’Initiative de Seraing by telephone on 04/336.66.16 or by e-mail at info@sisseraing.be.
